Andraste was formed following a mosh-pit collision at Paganfest '08, and became established as Manchester's foremost exponents of folk metal. Founder member Hazel Mayow (whistles and mandola) had long harboured a vision of combining her folk background in the wildlands of Cumbria with extreme metal; with Justin Morley (lead vocals, guitars, mandolin), Greg Chick (drums, vocals) and Tommy Rushton (bass, vocals) completing the lineup, the band proceeded to forge a very human take on history and mythology against the resulting epic backdrop of progressive virtuosity.
A self-produced debut album, The Secret Valley, was released in 2011 and garnered sufficient praise to earn the band an appearance on Bloodstock's acoustic stage in 2012. 'Bribe the Ferryman' is taken from the band's second album, due for release in mid-2015, and tells the tale of a grieving widow from the perspective of a priest who offers safe passage for the dead ... but at a dreadful cost.
As Bribe The Ferryman is a brand new, as yet unreleased track here is another Andraste song to keep you going until the compilation is released.
