Forged in Stone and Steel Part 2 - Track 13 Alwaid - Lacus Somniorum

Alwaid is a melodic metal band from Lille, France, which was founded in 2010. Within a few months, the first songs were written and the band played its first gigs in local bars. The band's first demo was released in the course of the summer 2012. The year 2013 was dedicated to live shows before the band hit the studio to record their first album "Lacus Somniorum", which was released in March 2014. An intense promotion tour then took Alwaid around the north of France, Belgium and the UK.

The band was named after a star that evokes a nocturnal and oniric world, and each track of this album tells its own story, following the different stages of sleep, from waking to unconsciousness, from insomnia to nightmares. The band strives to create a diversity of atmospheres, sometimes relying on symphonic structures and sometimes on more aggressive heavy metal guitars, not forgetting a number of darker pieces when male growls combine with the melodic female vocals.

Lacus Somniorum is the title track from Alwaid's 2014 album.

Marie Perrier – Vocals
Simon Lamarcq – Bass

Forged in Stone and Steel Part 2 - Track 9 As Night Falls - Final Destination

It all began in the summer of 2010 when two musicians who already knew one another from their previous musical projects – vocalist Anna Achtelik and guitarist Paweł Dylewski, decided to create the project of their dreams – a symphonic metal band that would follow in the footsteps of the greatest bands of the genre, but still remaining original and searching for its own style.

The first songs were created very quickly and the first shows were played at the beginning of 2012. The audiences' very positive reception confirmed that the direction was right. The first record was released later that year – an EP called My Secret Place, containing four songs, and the first music video for a song called My Memory. In the meantime new material was being composed and the band attended multiple shows and festivals. In 2014 As Night Falls released their second EP entitled From Grace To Oblivion.

Final Destination is taken from that EP - From Grace To Oblivion.

Forged in Stone and Steel Part 2 - Track 7 Andraste - Bribe The Ferryman

Andraste was formed following a mosh-pit collision at Paganfest '08, and became established as Manchester's foremost exponents of folk metal. Founder member Hazel Mayow (whistles and mandola) had long harboured a vision of combining her folk background in the wildlands of Cumbria with extreme metal; with Justin Morley (lead vocals, guitars, mandolin), Greg Chick (drums, vocals) and Tommy Rushton (bass, vocals) completing the lineup, the band proceeded to forge a very human take on history and mythology against the resulting epic backdrop of progressive virtuosity.

A self-produced debut album, The Secret Valley, was released in 2011 and garnered sufficient praise to earn the band an appearance on Bloodstock's acoustic stage in 2012. 'Bribe the Ferryman' is taken from the band's second album, due for release in mid-2015, and tells the tale of a grieving widow from the perspective of a priest who offers safe passage for the dead ... but at a dreadful cost.

As Bribe The Ferryman is a brand new, as yet unreleased track here is another Andraste song to keep you going until the compilation is released.

Forged in Stone and Steel Part 2 - Track 5 Reign of Sirius - The Rook and The Feather

Reign of Sirius are a Melodic/Symphonic Metal 6 piece band from the UK, based in Macclesfield in North West England. They reformed as a Symphonic Metal band in 2010 after a 3 year Electronica project of the same name founded by guitarist Mayo and Vocalist Alex. After multiple lineup changes they settled as a six piece to complete the resurrection of the band.

Showcasing their desire for heavy guitar riffs blended with epic symphonies and compositions, topped with the hard hitting screams and growls that build to the melodic and catchy choruses. The concept is strong with that hint of darkness and theatrical storytelling verses and lyrics which make the grand live shows more of an experience than you would get at your usual metal show.

Reign of Sirius released their second album 'Mirror Figures' which was a huge step up from their previous album. Released in April 2014 'Mirror Figures' is the promising next step for this fresh and original band, first heard with the release of the first single from the album 'Dice of Fate', released on 31st July 2013. The 8 minute plus single was more than a taster of what was to come and has shown exactly what the band can do.

Forged in Stone and Steel Part 2 - Track 4 Burn The Void - Wrong Side Of My Mind

Burn The Void are a UK band formed in late 2010 by guitarist Steve Peril and bassist Nicky Rogerson. The idea from the start was to create a sound, which brought together their NWOBHM influence, merged with more modern elements of the rock and metal genres. This idea was finally realised when they released their debut self titled EP in 2011, including popular songs ‘No Man’s Land’ and ‘Embrace The Night’. The response they received was more than they anticipated and their following started to grow around the world. They were achieving recognition in the UK, USA, Europe and Russia, even accomplishing high standing positions in the Myspace Rock/ Metal music charts against fully established bands at the time.

The band continued to write and gig throughout 2011 until early 2012 when the line up parted ways. Steve and Nicky continued to write and in October 2012 the band was reborn, with the introduction of Doogle Hill on guitar and Londa Ntotila on lead vocals. With this new line up came a new musical direction for them. Fusing together the rich classic rock and metal sound of their past, with soaring classical-styled vocals, the music has found its unique edge.

Formed in 2008 by guitarist Mit and bassist Dave, Jackknife Seizure's line up was not completed until 2010. Forged in Stone and Steel Part 1 - Track 13 Scandelion - Dusk In Your Dreams

Scandelion pushes past the normal confines of genres and “labels” with their unique and refreshing approach that can only be described as “brutally beautiful”. Formed in 2002 by Jorge Afonso, Scandelion takes its name from the ruins of a greek fortress on the coast of Jerusalem. The band released their first demo in 2005 and their first album “The Pureheart’s Breed’ in 2008.

Three albums later, 2014 saw a dramatic lineup change following a relocation to the UK. Jorge was first joined by guitar virtuoso Fabrizio Ferraro. Then came bassist Hallam Smith, then singer Nina Dysis, and lastly drummer James Chapman. Scandelion transformed their sound of their roots into something far more aggressive and powerful. Their latest album “Nonsense” released in 2014 shows a darker, more intense incarnation of the band; showing that they can move seamlessly into the more extreme styles of metal while retaining their symphonic and doom metal influences.

Forged in Stone and Steel Part 1 - Track 12 Unveil - Hide

The story begins in 2004. Alain Robitaille, Éric Lee and Éric Pomerleau join forces with one objective in mind: to play their own music. They start by forging their sound rocking the local club scene, sharing the stage with many bands including Unexpect and Stream of Passion. In 2010, they present “The Story of Sarah”, a short film included within a rock concert, on which the band collaborates with a local folk-rock singer named Joëlle Nolin. Her unique voice and energy give Unveil a new drive and she is asked to become the official lead singer.

Her trademark vocal style is now part of the Unveil sound. 2013 saw the release of Codex Noctem, a first EP featuring some of the band’s most road tested material. This collection of original songs, inspired by vampires, solitude and the secrets of the night, got rave reviews from both sides of the Atlantic. Go ahead and give in. Dare to Unveil.

Forged in Stone and Steel Part 1 - Track 9 Blind Saviour - Freedom Call

Blind Saviour can lay claim to be Malta's only fully fledged Power Metal band. The current line up was completed in 2013 and since then the band have played several gigs and local metal festivals. Lightning fast double bass drum rhythms, twin-lead harmonies, catchy sing-a-long refrains and orchestral textures are all combined in an elegant and exciting blend. The powerful and varied vocals together with an overall judicious use of keyboards make Blind Saviour quite a unique sounding band within the female fronted metal scene.

The band have been working to release their 10 track debut album which is centred around a story line featuring characters and places in a post-apocalyptic setting created by the band itself. Here one finds a few of the popular themes associated with this musical style a clearly defined good vs evil plot and the inclusion of epic battles between surviving human clans and their robot oppressors.

Their track Freedom Call is taken from their upcoming debut album.
