Femetalism to take a hiatus
After a fabulous 5 years working with some great bands, promoters, bloggers and radio shows Femetalism has made the difficult decision to take some well deserved time off.
As regular readers will already know, Femetalism started as a project for my eCommunications degree back in 2010. Since then Femetalism has become a huge part of our lives and something that we not only love but something that we know you have all enjoyed too. We have interviewed and featured numerous fantastic bands, have been involved with a load of great live music events and we even released our very own promotional compilation album series. We really don't want it to end.
However, 2016 marks the beginning of a new and exciting adventure for us, and one that will inevitably take us away from what we have been doing with Femetalism. Without being able to commit 100% to the site, we feel that now is the time to take some time out. We fully intend to return at some point in the future and you will no doubt see us at the odd gig and festival throughout the year. For now, though, we will no longer be accepting promotional material from bands or sponsoring live music events, and we won't be popping up in your social media news feeds very often at all.
In the meantime, if you haven't already, please download the Femetalism compilation series, Forged in Stone and Steel, from Bandcamp, and do continue to Like and Follow us on Facebook and Twitter so that when we come back you are the first to hear! Your support over the last 5 years has been phenomenal and we appreciate it very much indeed.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Valkyrian Festival 2015 - Photo Round Up
On Saturday 21st November we headed over to Selby for the very last Valkyrian Festival. This year was particularly special for Femetalism as we were honoured to be sponsoring this final event.
We had a great time with a great selection of bands playing. As always, we tried to capture all of the bands performing and and we were able to grab shots of most of the bands. You can see our full album of photos from the event on our photos page or by going to www.irongolemphotography.co.uk.

Photo Review: Mist, Kurokuma, Northern Oak & The Miser on the Faerie Gump
On 22nd September, Slovenian doom metal band Mist played their first UK date at The Rocking Chair, Sheffield with support from local bands: The Miser on the Faerie Gump, Northern Oak and Kurokuma. The event was brought together by doom and post metal promoter Holy Spider Promotions in association with Femetalism.
It was an incredible night with top notch performances from all four bands, a great atmosphere and a huge amount of support.
First up were local 'comedy' progressive folk metal band The Miser on the Faerie Gump. They might think their lyrics are silly, but their music is anything but! There was so much energy on the stage and in the room during their performance and they really got the crowd warmed up.

New Release: Formicarius - Lake of the Dead (Single) 2015
Formicarius believe that for too long now and without reason, English Black metal has been underestimated, never truly revered alongside its Scandinavian cousins and that the meticulous sonic assault that is Lake of the Dead will serve as a simple demand: This ends now.
First conceived in the Winter of 2014, Formicarius craft elaborate tempests of black metal that hit the listener like a finely sharpened sword to the skull: ornate yet destructive. Elements of death and symphonic metal are called upon to reinforce the gargantuan sound that can be heard on single Lake of the Dead. Unsurprisingly, Formicarius are not a collection of upstart amateurs, instead featuring members of De Profundis, Premature Birth, Phyrexia and Maxdmyz: no strangers to UK extreme metal.

Here is the next interview in our series of interviews with some of the bands we featured in our Top Picks for Bloodstock 2015 article last week.
Formed in 2006 and based in the West Midlands, Alunah merge elements of doom, psych and classic heavy rock with earthy hypnotic vocal melodies to create their sound. Currently signed to Napalm Records, the band have released 3 full length albums. They found out they would be performing on the Sophie Lancaster stage at Bloodstock a few months back, chose a set list and practiced it loads. They were unfortunately plagued with lots of trouble with amps and pedals, so "lots of trips to amp techs and music shops to get things sorted" was involved in getting the band ready for their performance.

Femetalism's Top Picks for Bloodstock 2015
The annual pilgrimage to Bloodstock Open Air Festival begins in but a few short hours. This year the Femetalism team have splashed out and invested in tickets of the VIP variety and we are very much looking forward to sampling some of those 100 real ales in the Serpents Lair VIP Bar. Oh yes! But what bands are we looking forward to seeing and where will we be over the weekend?
Having looked through the confirmed set times for the festival, I can't help but notice the distinct lack of female musicians on the big stages, despite having Within Temptation and Delain headlining stages over the weekend. That said, there are some blooming awesome sounding bands heading out onto Bloodstock stages throughout the weekend and so it seems this year, Bloodstock have again gone for quality over quantity.
Here is a quick run down of the bands we recommend you check out:

Lisa Cuthbert collaboration with Helevorn in the works
News has reached us that Dublin-born singer/songwriter Lisa Cuthbert is heading to the studio in collaboration with gothic doomsters Helevorn once again. This is very exciting for us, being great fans of both Lisa and Helevorn and of their last collaboration, Els Dies Tranquils.
There are no details yet of what form this collaboration may take except that Lisa is providing guest vocals on an upcoming track. We can't wait to hear the result!
Here's Els Dies Tranquils, from Helevorn's latest album Compassion Forlorn, to get a feel for why we love this collaboration so much.
Check out Lisa's 2013 solo album Paramour for more of her work. As an added bonus, if you sign up for the mailing list on her website you get the EP III for free.

Forever Still release music video for Awake The Fire - July 2015
Forever Still release music video for their new single “Awake The Fire”, and lets fans pay ‘what they want’ for it at their website www.foreverstill.dk
"We believe that music should be available to everyone - both those who are broke, and those who have a little extra to spare in support of the artists they love" Maja explains. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into this song, so if people want to give us some help for the time and effort, we are very grateful! But if they don't have the money right now, they can take it, share it and if they love it, come back and kick in later.
The video is the first video from their latest EP “Save Me” which is the second of three digital EPs that will eventually end up as one physical full length concept album later in 2015. The story of the album is about a suppressed individual struggling through depression, anxiety, and worthlessness fighting to get well and getting stronger in the process. “The songs are all very raw, emotional and somewhat imperfect, because we wanted it to sound like someone falling apart and trying to put the pieces back together” says Maja
The EP is recorded, mixed and mastered in Copenhagen by band member Mikkel Haastrup in the band’s own studio. Mikkel is a trained sound engineer by Flemming ‘Metallica’ Rasmussen and explains: "We like our music and everything surrounding it to be 100% honest and we felt the only way we could achieve that was by doing everything ourselves".
We look forward to welcoming Forever Still back to the UK in October for the Black Mass Festival taking place in Sheffield October 23-25.
